Louise Fournier was born on 9 July 1998 in Saint John, New Brunswick to parents originally from the Gaspé region of Québec. Every year since 2008 the Fournier family has vacationed in the Magdalen Islands, and through this Louise became friends with Guillaume Garot. Despite the fact that on 15 November 2012 Louise was back in of Saint John when the Republic of the Magdalen Islands was established, it was decided to appoint her Minister of Foreign Affairs. She served in this capacity for 8 days until François Côté, the Minister of Finance, resigned, and Prime Minister Kader Arif appointed her to replace him.
