The station is located on the 4500 block of Wisconsin Avenue at Albemarle Street, NW, with exits on either side of Wisconsin Avenue. Service began on August 25, 1984, when the Red Line inaugurated service to Grosvenor. Originally, the station was named simply "Tenley Circle"; however, American University paid WMATA to change the name for public relations purposes.
