In 2377, he was serving as the personal slave of Martok, the Regent of the Klingon Empire, on Qo'noS. During Martok's frequent drunken stupors, Taurik initiated mind melds with the Regent so as to make it easier for Taurik to manipulate him telepathically without making physical contact. This resulted in a significant deterioration in Klingon-Cardassian relations. Martok's increasingly erratic and unstable behaviour led to his leadership of the Klingon Empire being challenged by Klag, who slew him in honourable combat and thereby succeeded him as Regent.
