While not "warm" per se, it has a very mild climate for its latitude. Wintertime temperatures average 32 °F in the south and 14 °F in the north. When people are saying that it is warm, they are usually comparing it to Greenland, which is actually much colder by comparison. 3/4 of Greenland is permanently covered by an ice sheet and the warmest part has an average wintertime temperature of just −22 °F to −13 °F.
