King Thespius had 50 daughters all of whom were of marrying age but the king was unable to find adequate suitors. When Herakles came to the city to hunt a lion, Herakles ended up taking 49 of the 50 as bedfellows over the course of just as many days. For further information on Thespius read the myth The Daughters of Thespius.
