- Chaos Mode is a very powerfull temporary bonus that can be accessed by reaching 6 kills. It transformes any character to an upgraded version of themselves, giving them bonuse attack speed and movement speed. Some items can expent the chaos time once purchased. Each character has it's own chaos mode, listed below:
- In Chaos mode, the grunts and beast of Olympus are more savage and attack in more organised formations, while bosses also get a lot tougher. For example, Hades becomes incredibly challenging to defeat and even weak bosses and enemies become a challenge due to there increased ferocity. Kratos is slightly more vulnerable to attacks and therefore takes a lot more damage. The combination of both changes results in attacks that are almost lethal if not blocked or evaded.
- Chaos Mode is a difficulty setting exclusive to Star Ocean: The Last Hope. Comparable to 4D Mode in Star Ocean: Till the End of Time, Chaos Mode is the hardest difficulty level in the game, harder than even Universe Mode. To unlock this difficulty, the player must beat the game on Universe Mode. By completing the game on Chaos Mode, the player unlocks the XBox 360 Achievement "Chaos Conqueror", worth 70 Gamerscore points.

- Chaos Mode is a difficulty setting exclusive to Star Ocean: The Last Hope. Comparable to 4D Mode in Star Ocean: Till the End of Time, Chaos Mode is the hardest difficulty level in the game, harder than even Universe Mode. To unlock this difficulty, the player must beat the game on Universe Mode. On this difficulty setting, all enemies have their stats increased by an average of 1.6 times their usual on Galaxy Mode. Their Rush Gauges also increase at a faster rate. To further compound the difficult, the targeting cursors that surround the player characters disappear. Blindsides are still possible, but they are more difficult due to a lack of knowledge about who is being targeted. By completing the game on Chaos Mode, the player unlocks the XBox 360 Achievement "Chaos Conqueror", worth 70 Gamerscore points.

This mode forces the player to be more creative and to use particular weapons more often. The Bow of Apollo is such a weapon, during both the Hades and the Zeus boss fights, it's almost indispensable which isn't the case in the lower difficulties.
