Hal Linden sings the classic patriotic number "Yankee Doodle Boy" in episode 517 of The Muppet Show. He is interrupted by Gonzo singing "Jingle Bells". The full song briefly references the original "Yankee Doodle" song. However, that passage talks about Yankee Doodle going to London to ride the ponies, since its source play, Little Johnny Jones, was about an American jockey in England. Rowlf the Dog and Jimmy Dean performed a variation of the song in a 1964 spot on The Jimmy Dean Show, singing about putting Rowlf in the White House as President of the United States.
