Verdery's Territory, later known as the Negro Territory, but most commonly referred to as "the Terry", was a neighborhood in southern part of the city of Augusta, Georgia. Originally a predominantly Irish community, the Freedman's Bureau relocated emancipated blacks in to the neighborhood after the American Civil War. By the middle of the 20th century, the Terry was home to the majority of Augusta's black citizens.
