  • Another piece related to the Convocation, this concluded some RP that I was lucky enough to have with the Aurora Wolves. They escorted Gammy to the ruins of Bael Modan in the Barrens from Booty Bay (using the Zodiac to cross the seas, thanks Sabarra!) making sure the largely defenceless dwarf didn't get killed by the wildlife. Unfortunately for Gammy, her employers appreciate discretion and she has a big mouth. It was sad killing her off, for in the brief time I rped her, I very much enjoyed her boistrous charm. From the collected fiction of Iyokus Shatterstar She was mining, or excavating, or uncovering some ancient secret, it was not clear which. But her pick banged against the rock wall with an intensity that was unusual. DOOM, DOOM, DOOM then a brief silence, then again, DOOM, DOOM, DOOM. The wall vibrating with unnatural harmonics, sounding almost hollow against the metal spike. Gammadych screwed up her eyes and suddenly she was no longer in a wet, barely lit tunnel, but tangled up in warm sheets, head buried under a pillow, and the banging was not the crack of metal on stone but of a fist on her front door. She murmered in complaint and kicked out fitfully, the blooming knowledge that she would have to leave her little nest of warmth and comfort a thorn of annoyance. Then she felt the track of a big hand up her naked back, and a hot whisper in her ear and she grinned stupidly, like a girl half her age. 'Leave it to me love. Whoever it is doesn't get to cop a leer at my lass.' The hand slapped her wobbly behind firmly and she let out a coy giggle. Only when she felt his weight leave the small bed did she open her eyes to watch him wiggle into his trousers, his great black mane and beard all frizzed with sleep as he fumbled with the ties. As Brin jogged up the stairs to the main rooms of her small house, Gammadych, or Gammy as she much preferred to be known as, stretched out, and wiped the gum from her eyes. It was early, very early, she could tell that much, but she had always had trouble getting back to sleep after she had been woken up. She giggled again, maybe Brin could try wear me out once more. Toying with the thoughts, she slipped out of her bed, wrapping the light sheets around her squat, well-rounded body. She slowly moved over to her workspace, a desk, whereupon sat a tightly bound sheaf of papers. Despite her appearance and manner, Gammy was a meticulous scholar, and her desk was neatly ordered, reference works stacked to one side, her own notes labeled and bristling with coloured markers. This was it, her masterpiece, the thesis that would signal her return to the centre of academic circles and begin a lifetime of debate and discussion. The League would not be able to afford to ignore her after she published it, and they would engage with her at their peril. Her masterpiece...the answer to years of scorn and abuse. She slumped into her chair. Brin had been up their for a while now. She could not make out what or who he could have been talking to, the walls of Ironforge's dwellings where far too thick for that, but she hoped he would send whoever it was away soon. He had been an unexpected blessing, a gemstone found in a pile of rubble. Ever since her Morton had died, she had been alone, and Gammadych Hewer did not react well to loneliness. Yes, she had a bluster and vivacity that belied her grief, and had attempted to drown out the silence by a lengthy series of flings and liasons, but she had yet to find anyone with the quiet care that she had found in her late husband. Then she had met Brin. He was a freelance excavator, a professional digger who often found himself employed by the archeologists of the Explorer's League, and it had been on one of their digsites (a site she was not officially allowed to be on) that they had first met. He had been interested in what she had been doing, and despite her reservations about discussing her project with a League lackey, his guileless curiousity brought out the teacher in her, and she was soon talking freely with him. Nothing had happened then, but a few days later, after her other duties where completed, they had met again in Ironforge, and things had blossomed from there. Hence her consternation. She sighed at her thesis, it's title glaring at her accusingly; Titan Language and Linguistics: A New Perspective. It would shatter the present dogma and would launch her into an unrelenting defense of her theories. She just wasn't sure that was what she wanted anymore. She had gold now, a lot more than she had ever had before. The work translating the megalith that Limp had brought her to had been highly lucrative, as had the money he had given her in order to confirm her theories. She could now afford to perhaps take a step back from her academic life, she was, afterall, fluent in Gnomish, Common, Thallassian and Dwarvish and had already got a pretty good working knowledge of Darnassian and Drenai. She could simply work as a translator, and perhaps with Brin's income live pretty comfortably for the rest of her...their lives. She smiled, it was a pleasing feeling, thinking of herself as a couple again. It was fast yes, but as she had said to the Captain, finding that vein of gold...she wouldn't let it get away. Finally she heard the door close and Brin thumping down the stairs. She decided, she would ask him what he thought about forgetting about the Titan's, leaving a peaceful life together somewhere, leave the academics to their ceaseless bickering. She purred as callused hands stroked over her shoulders and up her neck, her mouth hanging open as she prepared to speak. 'Lover? I want to as-' Her voice was cut off as strong arms flexed, and darkness clouded her mind. She did not even hear the snap. *** "Brin" carefully and gently lowered the lifeless body to the rug-covered floor, cupping the head in one big hand so that it wouldn't roll about grotesquely. His dark eyes were rock-chip hard and his mouth set in a thin line underneath his thick black beard. He stood quickly, and moved to his clothes, dressing hastily but also with movements that told of a lack of panic, a cool professionalism. It was not long before Gammy's bound thesis and all of her notes had been placed inside a waxed leather bag. With a grim detachment, the dwarf took apart her desk, his orders to find every shred of her work most emphatic. Satisfied, he turned again to the body. An outside observer may be forgiven for thinking that as he knelt by her side and took her hand into his, that a flicker of regret passed through those dark eyes. It is clear however, that Brin is simple removing the heavy god rings from her fingers. He did not know, though he suspected as to why he had been ordered to do away with Gammadych Hewer. He palmed the devices that the gnome had given to him along with his orders - three small orbs, a single button on the side of each. His employers were people who valued secrecy above all things, and he had no doubt that Gammy and he would be enjoying a tumble in the sheets had she known how to keep her mouth shut. He placed one of the orbs on her desk, pressing the button firmly, before moving upstairs, bag slung over one shoulder. But that was not Gammy, no, she could not help but boast about her newfound riches, or the opportunity she had been given to examine a never before seen Titan artifact. Brin shook his head ruefully as he placed the last of the orbs in the doorway to the small home. For all her bluster, Gammy had been frighteningly naive of the real world, and just how far some people would go to preserve their secrets. No doubt his employers would miss her expertise, but with her treatise in his bag, she could be replaced. Brin was long gone when the orbs finally clicked, their purpose awakened. Jets of flame billowed forth, and it was the work of a moment before everything in the home was alight. Ironforge houses did not burn easily or for long, but by the time anyone began thinking of the dwarf who had been staying with Gammadych recently, he had disappeared, a ghost of paper and lies, for Brin had never been more than a fiction and would never be found. Gammadych Hewer's treatise vanished too, never to see the light of academic scruntiny
