Because of the controversy surrounding this ability, it is highly regulated, and the only accepted, legal and possible use is limited to the Tonal Field around jump points for navigational verification. • The NAVCOM was invented in 2648 by Dr. Peter Anthony and is able to read scripted Tonal Fields created by human minds. Because of the controversy surrounding this ability, it is highly regulated, and the only accepted, legal and possible use is limited to the Tonal Field around jump points for navigational verification. After its invention, the jump success rate has been raised to 100%. The introduction of the film presents several events of the Confederation history. The order of the events mentioned suggest that the NAVCOM was a technological "replacement" of the Pilgrims, before first contact with the Kilrathi. However the Confederation Handbook places its invention in a much later date, during the Terran-Kilrathi War. Pegasus Station housed an important NAVCOM unit, which was stolen by Kilrathi forces in 2654 gaining access to the coordinates to the Sol system. The unit was taken to a Thrakhra-class ConCom. When a marine force boarded the vessel and discovered the unit, they were able to predict the exact point through which the ships would emerge from, and concentrate their fire there.
