The RGA42FM features a mahogany body with an arched flamed maple top bolted to a maple neck with a 24-fret bound rosewood fingerboard with dot position markers. Components include dual covered Ibanez active humbucking pickups and a hard-tail bridge. A special feature is the active EQ switch which activates a mid-cut. For 2011, the body shape was updated with deeper scoop cuts on the horns. In addition a new set of pickups was introduced and the Wizard II neck was replaced by the Wizard III. The RGA42FM was discontinued after 2012. A new model with the same name was introduced for 2017.
