The Capitanian is a stage on the geologic time scale occurring from 265.8 ± 0.7 Ma to 260.4 ± 0.7 Ma (million years ago). It is the last stage of the Guadalupian epoch. A significant mass extinction event occurred at the end of this stage which may be related to the much larger Permian-Triassic extinction event that followed about 10 million years later. This mass extinction killed of 70% of all marine organism including coral reefs, Fusulinid and terrestrial reptiles.
