Details: Julio Cruz was a Colombian drug runner and his boss was Jesus Penalver, and have handled, shipped, and sold over $50 million of cocaine. Their operation worked perfectly until November of 1988, when the Coast Guard seized large amounts of cocaine from one of Penalver's boats. The FBI set up a cell phone shop in order to secretly record conversations by Cruz and Penalver, and were able to make several indictments and arrests. However, Penalver and Cruz were able to elude capture. Extra Notes: This case first aired on the May 2, 1990 episode of Unsolved Mysteries. Results: Captured. Cruz was later arrested and sentenced to seventeen years in prison for drug trafficking and has since been released. However, Penalver is still wanted by authorities. Links: None
