  • In The Sims and The Sims 2, Sims must call a taxicab (also called a taxi or cab) in order to travel to community lots. The only other ways to travel to other lots are via A Hole in the Ground from The Sims: Makin' Magic, owning and driving a vehicle from The Sims 2: Nightlife, and using the "Walk to Lot..." interaction introduced in Bon Voyage. __TOC__
  • In 2004, Dr. Elizabeth Weir called for a taxi to drive her to the White House. (SG1: "Lost City, Part 1")
  • A taxicab, also taxi or cab, is a type of vehicle for hire with a driver, used by a single passenger or small group of passengers, often for a non-shared ride. A taxicab conveys passengers between locations of their choice. In modes of public transport, the pick-up and drop-off locations are determined by the service provider, not by the passenger, although demand responsive transport and share taxis provide a hybrid bus/taxi mode. __TOC__
  • A taxi was featured in a scene of the Earth movie Appointment with Danger which was screened in the mess hall for movie night in a nightmare experienced by T'Pol in 2153. (ENT: "Impulse") After following an image of Willie Hawkins through a door, Captain Benjamin Sisko found himself in the middle of a Prophet-induced vision of a busy New York street and was almost immediately hit by a taxi. (DS9: "Far Beyond the Stars") A taxi was also seen in the Orient Express holodeck program on the USS Enterprise-D. (TNG: "Emergence" )
  • By 2015, taxicabs, like most vehicles, were able to fly, which rendered transportation much quicker than when they were road cars. However, the fares were much more expensive compared to the previous century. The DeLorean time machine nearly collided with a taxicab when it departed from Lyon Estates in 1985 and appeared in the wrong lane of Skyway C25 on October 21, 2015, facing oncoming traffic. In 2091, Jules and Verne took a taxicab to the McFly Space Center to find their parents.

However, the fares were much more expensive compared to the previous century. The DeLorean time machine nearly collided with a taxicab when it departed from Lyon Estates in 1985 and appeared in the wrong lane of Skyway C25 on October 21, 2015, facing oncoming traffic. On the same day, Biff Tannen followed the DeLorean, with Doc and Marty aboard, to Hilldale in Cab B25 from the Luxor Cab Company. Fred, the cab driver, had an intelligent parrot named Priscilla that could read the amount of the fare. The cab had its own entertainment system consisting of "200 local channel stereo, mobile phone, food, beverage and snack dispensing systems". Biff may have made use of this facility to pass the time while the vehicle was stuck on the jammed Skyway C25. In 2091, Jules and Verne took a taxicab to the McFly Space Center to find their parents.

A taxicab conveys passengers between locations of their choice. In modes of public transport, the pick-up and drop-off locations are determined by the service provider, not by the passenger, although demand responsive transport and share taxis provide a hybrid bus/taxi mode. There are four distinct forms of taxicab, which can be identified by slightly differing terms in different countries: hackney carriages, also known as public hire, hailed or street taxis, licensed for hailing on the street; private hire vehicles, also known as minicabs or private hire taxis, licensed for pre-booking only; Taxibuses, also known as Jitneys, operating on pre-set routes typified by multiple stops and multiple independent passengers; and Limousines, specialized vehicle licensed for operation by pre-booking. Although types of vehicles and methods of regulation, hiring, dispatching, and negotiating payment differ significantly from country to country, many common characteristics exist. __TOC__

(DS9: "Far Beyond the Stars") When the HMS Bounty went back in time to 1986, James T. Kirk was nearly hit by a Cab Co. taxi in San Francisco. Another company operating in the city was DeSoto Cab. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home) A taxi was also seen in the Orient Express holodeck program on the USS Enterprise-D. (TNG: "Emergence" ) After Tom Paris "borrowed" a car from a dealership in 1996, Tuvok berated him for doing so, saying a taxi cab would have been a more ethical choice. (VOY: "Future's End")
