Claude Beasley was a regular in the Weatherfield Arms pub who helped Cilla Brown, known at the time under her nom-de-plume of “Lulu”, to identify the man who had been seeing her for the past week and who had run off into the night, missing one of his shoes, when the clock reached 7.00pm in what Cilla thought to be a Cinderella-type romance. The unknown man was Les Battersby and the reason for his quick exit was that he was wearing an electronic tag after his recent imprisonment for his attack on policeman Mick Hopwood and 7.00pm was his curfew time. Cilla was gobsmacked to be told by Claude that his name wasn’t “Clint” as he claimed and that he didn’t work in the music business but instead drove a cab for Street Cars.
