The 1956-01 was a Convertible Series event held at Daytona Beach Road Course on February 25, 1956. It was the first race in series history. Curtis Turner took home the honors of the first victory, holding off Fireball Roberts by 4.9 miles (more than a lap). Joe Weatherly was the pole sitter and the first leader in series history, leading five circuits. Meanwhile, eventual season champion Bob Welborn didn't even compete in the event. Stats
