| - Neither federal nor local governmental forces should attempt to micromanage the economy. This only strangles. As governmental handouts are established, different populations rely upon the income (often called pork). In time competing special interests appear and always depend upon the governmental handout. A number of unconstitutional, federal agencies (Federal Dept of Education, Department of Agriculture, etc.) make a throwback to the 1930s. For example, the U.S. transfers money from the pockets of people, from working families in the cities, into the pockets of factory farmers.

Meanwhile, Pittsburgh has all its Authorities. Article One, Section Eight gives the Federal Government limited, delegated authority. We have come to expect and lean upon the Federal Agriculture Department and the Department of Housing. Most of Urban Development amounts to much of the same mindset. Others have called for the elmination of the federal Department of Education. We need to think again and evaluate services and agencies that are beyond the scope of the US Constitution. (holding up a piece of a $1 bill), This is all he will have left to work with. So he will have to tax an awful lot of people to get significant sums (to finance his big govt. projects). But once he has it, how is he going to use it? He just told us.... His way! We Libertarians come at it from a completely different point of view. We believe that the best people to decide what goes on in education in the community is.... the community. Instead of sending these scarce dollars to Washington DC .. we would like to see these dollars retained in your neighborhoods. If the community decides they shouldn't , then they shouldn't. Again, we have the clear distinction. Who is going to run your local school? Who is going to run your life? Them?... or the local community? ========== The LPPgh has opposed the patriot act, by signing on with the BORDC (Bill of Rights Defense Committee) and it's anti patriot act efforts. I think the pgh city council agreed to the resolution. We should take credit for it. You aren't going to lose any votes in the city of Pgh by saying that Libertarians would get rid of the Dept of Agriculture. This is a safe example of something that Libertarians would get rid of. You could possibly combine Eminent Domain platform planks with the ones about out of control state and federal agencies. Both are examples of govt power being used irresponsibly. But you need a plan to roll back creeping Federalism, etc in a way that benefits Pgh citizens.
