The 1987 Montreal Alouettes played two preseason games before folding on June 24, 1987, just one day before their scheduled Thursday game against the Toronto Argonauts. The many years of bad ownership and dwindling fan support finally led to the CFL pulling the plug on the franchise and folding them. Since Sam Berger sold the team, they suffered from bad and shakey ownerships, and years of terrible football, with only one year of the team playing .500 ball, 1985, (8-8), leading to the team playing in a near empty Olympic Stadium in their final year. Consequently, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers moved to the East Division and played the Argonauts that day instead.
