* University of North Dakota Ironically, the first Frozen Four held outside of Colorado would be won by a team from Colorado, the Denver Pioneers, who won their first national championship in their first Frozen Four appearance. The Pioneers defeated North Dakota, another team experiencing its first Frozen Four, by a 6-2 score.
