| - Tyson Carter Bishop III (born December 18th, 1986) is a former American football quarterback for the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Auburn Tigers and was drafted as the first overall pick by the Panthers in the 2009 NFL Draft. He is the third player to win the Heisman Trophy, a national championship, and be the first overall pick in the NFL draft all in the same one-year span, joining Leon Hart (1950), and Angelo Bertelli (1944). Bishop is the son of ex-military Lieutenant General Tyson Carter Bishop Jr, a decorated Marine. Bishop Jr. is a purple heart award winner and seen by many as a war hero from his acts of bravery in the Gulf War. Bishop's mother, Judith Marie Porter died of a heart attack while giving birth to him. Due to his father being gone most of the time Tyson was raised by his grandmother Cheryl Reese Porter. Bishop signed a letter of intent to play quarterback for Auburn University. He became just the third player in major college football history to both rush and pass for 20 or more touchdowns in a single season. His performance earned him the Heisman Trophy as the most outstanding college football player, and he led Aubrun to their second National Championship in school history, despite controversy concerning his eligibility. In his NFL debut, Bishop became the first rookie quarterback in NFL history to throw for 450+ yards in his NFL regular-season opener, breaking the former rookie record. Bishop hung up the pads at the end of the 2011 NFL season calling it quits after what seemed to be an extremely promising career. The injury he suffered week 7 of the 2011 season to his shoulder prevented him from ever playing quarterback in the league again. Putting 2011 behind him Bishop has gone to seek a career in professional wrestling.
