The Catalani depended on the trade of the Mediterranean for most of their economic activity; however, Catalonia also had man connections with the Gallic States of Aquitania, Francia, and Narbonensis. The Catalani were also in possession of the capital of Hispania in Tarraco, and were the most powerful in among the Post-Hispania Provinces. The other tribes simply fell away from the Catalani, who were the dominant people in Hispania. The capital moved to Barcelona after the intervention of Emperor Sergius, and Catalonia continued its prominence among these other Provinces.
