Nicholas Hoare Books (a real bookstore in Toronto) was used for a scene in the episode "Stranger than Fiction" in which the store hosts a book signing for Emily Weiss's book The Denied. In "Stranger than Fiction", Emily Weiss, the popular author of a series of vampire books, is in Toronto on a publicity tour to promote her latest novel. When she is attacked, the assumption is that one of her fans is stalking her; and Det. Nick Knight and his partner, Don Schanke, are assigned to provide protection. At first, this means putting her in a police safe house; but, after another attack, Nick decides to take her to his own home. This does not, however, negate her professional obligations: the promotional tour must go on. She therefore goes to Nicholas Hoare Books for the signing.

This does not, however, negate her professional obligations: the promotional tour must go on. She therefore goes to Nicholas Hoare Books for the signing. At first, things go as planned. The author sits at a table in the centre of the shop, fans line up, and she signs their books. Schanke stays apart from this action, since his attendance hardly seems needed. Although initially a sceptic, he has started to read The Denied; and he takes advantage of the quiet to sit down in one of the armchairs in the store, and dip back into the book. From his questions when Weiss takes a break, he has clearly been converted into a fan. Nick is annoyed when LaCroix shows up to remind him of his duty—but they are interrupted by trouble. A man is thrusting his way to the head of the line, pushing people away so hard they fall over. Quickly, Nick and Schanke head to Weiss to protect her and grab the intruder. He turns out to be an obsessed fan, who has been sending her thousands of letters without getting a response. However, he insists that he has not hurt Emily Weiss: he just wants her to answer his letters. And, despite the threat that he might pose at some future time, it turns out that he actually isn't the one who has been attacking her. After he is brought to the 96th Precinct police station, a letter is delivered from the actual attacker.
