Born in 1103, in Oisy, France, and having refused all offers of marriage until the age of twenty-three when she became a hermitess at Groot-Bijgaarden, near Brussels, Belgium. Wavina later accepted land from Count Godfrey of Brabant and built a convent and served as its first abbess.
