He allows Max and Zoe aboard without tickets because of the "whopper" they tell about them looking for a dinosaur. Despite clearly being scared, he never leaves the wheelhouse as Baryonyx attacks the boat, or as it gets pulled towards the rocks at the Falls' base after its rudder is broken. Chomp uses Lightning Strike to knock the boat away from the Falls before pushing it to safety, letting the Captain breathe a sigh of relief, now excited that he has a new story to tell.
