David Bethune was a Canadian footballer who was an integral part of the early successes of Canada's Bartlett United. He is currently the Manager of Bloorcourt City AFC in Canada's 4.Division, group 11. After not seeing the pitch for the entire first half of Season 16, Bethune decided to retire at the age of thirty-six. On December 21st, 2009, in Season 18, Bethune was one of the inaugural inductees into Bartlett United's Hall of Heroes.

abstract	David Bethune was a Canadian footballer who was an integral part of the early successes of Canada's Bartlett United. He is currently the Manager of Bloorcourt City AFC in Canada's 4.Division, group 11. Bethune was a veteran of Toronto's amateur leagues, and for years was lauded as one of the best local players never to have had an opportunity to play professionally. That changed in Season 7 when Bartlett United was formed as a professional club with the merger of Bethune's club - The Dufferin Democrats - and three other amatuer clubs. New Manager Leo Patrick was quick to not only sign Bethune to a professional deal, but to make him the club's first Captain. Bethune's seven seasons with United were plagued with nagging injuries that seemed to compound as his career progressed. Despite appearing in an average of only twenty-eight matches per season, Bethune won United's coveted MVP Award three straight times while also capturing several club records, and - in Season 9 - collecting United's first-ever MVP trophy from FITA. He also spent his off-hours completing his coaching certifications, and on April 25, 2008 he made his managerial debut acting as a player/manager alongside Leo Patrick in a friendly against Boars Head FC. In November of 2008, midway through Season 13, Bethune admitted that the high calibre of play in Canada's 2.Division, group 2 was proving more than his body could handle. He made the difficult decision to ask for a transfer to a lower league where he could still be a star despite his chronic injuries. Manager Mikko Nurmela consulted with founding President Richard Davis, and they agreed to transfer Bethune to Canada's 5.Division Canadians Soldiers for a fee of more than $20 million. Bethune appeared in a mere twenty-six matches over the next three and a half seasons for his new club, and made most of the those appearances in the unfamiliar position of center fullback. After not seeing the pitch for the entire first half of Season 16, Bethune decided to retire at the age of thirty-six. In a move that surprised very few pundits, Bethune found himself back at Bartlett United as Season 17 began. He was named Reserve Manager at Bloorcourt City AFC and was given the keys to The Firollo Centre, United's world-class youth training facility. In his five seasons as Reserve Manager, Bethune has helped develop many players who feature in United's senior lineup, while also remaining competitive in Canada's 4.Division. On December 21st, 2009, in Season 18, Bethune was one of the inaugural inductees into Bartlett United's Hall of Heroes.
