Emma Godfrey (1 April 1887 — 9 July 1997) was a verified American supercentenarian. She was born on a farm in Pottawattamie County, Iowa, to parents Clarkson and Ellen Godfrey. She had seven siblings. Godfrey worked as a teacher before taking care of her invalided mother. This was also the reason she didn't get married to the man she was in love with. She moved to a nursing home at age 100. She was very active in church. Beside teaching, she was also a seamstress for children in need of clothes. Until she was 109, she was able to play bowling.
