Leper Messiah is character created in Puerto Rico's Freedom Caribbean Wrestling by Shawn Gonzalez, custom-made for the wrestler Tully Arthurs. Tully, a former holder of the "World's Strongest Man" title who used to work occasionally under the name Tom Angelus, is a powerhouse worker who had drifted around wrestling for several years. Although he had a physique to die for, his bland babyface mannerisms and sub-par ring work meant that he never connected with the crowd and so never stayed long in any one place. The nightmarish Leper Messiah character - a sociopathic degenerate who loves pain - was an admitted shot in the dark, but Arthurs surprised everyone by playing the character perfectly.
