When the time came to launch the raft, he was recruited by Jack to help, but the mast broke, and the group was alerted to a column of black smoke, rising from another section of the island. Once the broken mast was replaced, he helped successfully launch it into the ocean, and, along with the rest of the survivors, waved good-bye to Michael, Walt, Jin and Sawyer from the beach. He then headed off to the caves with everyone else to escape an expected attack from the "Others". When Sun was attacked in her garden, this man was one of the many concerned survivors who came to see what had happened. He was also one of the first to make it to the DHARMA food drop. When Bernard decided to build the S.O.S., this man volunteered to help, and he even stuck with it longer than most, but he eventually gave up on it. When Locke and Charlie brought a badly wounded and unconscious Eko back to the camp, this man came to see what was happening. He then listened to Locke tell the group that he would rescue Jack, Kate, and Sawyer. He was also present the day Locke offered the opportunity for anyone who wanted to to go out to the Pearl Station, but he chose not to go.
