The Gangstas was the tag team of New Jack and Mustapha Saed in ECW and Smoky Mountain Wrestling. SMW was the birthplace of the controversial "Gangstas" gimmick, where the African American wrestlers New Jack and Mustafa would cut promos about activist Medgar Evers, use fried rice and pickles as props and win matches as a result of a two count (rather than the conventional three count), purportedly due to Affirmative Action. Ring announcers would always confuse their hometown as being Louisiana (La.) instead of Los Angeles (LA) which would been seen as disrespectful by "The Gangstas."

  • The Gangstas was the tag team of New Jack and Mustapha Saed in ECW and Smoky Mountain Wrestling. Ring announcers would always confuse their hometown as being Louisiana (La.) instead of Los Angeles (LA) which would been seen as disrespectful by "The Gangstas." In ECW, they were known for bringing weapons in trash cans and shopping trolleys; like guitars, crutches, stapleguns and more to the ring. The team split in 1997. The former team later began a feud with each other when Mustafa returned in 1999 for a brief while. With Mustafa gone, New Jack went on to continue using the Gangsta gimmick, even forming a new team with John Kronus (formerly of The Eliminators), called "The Gangstanators". On May 24, 2008, the Gangstas reunited for the first time in over 10 years at XPW's "Cold Day in Hell" in a match against the Westside NGZ.
