Soon Voge discovered that his former partner had failed to honor certain debts to a gang of local smugglers when the gang visited him to collect on those debts. His former partner refused to acknowledge the debts and Voge didn't have the money to pay off the smugglers. As the gang even threatened Voge's family, Voge resorted to hiring a team of experienced spacers to handle those criminals and "make sure they don't trouble anyone else again".
