  • Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl wants all city residents to be counted in the 2010 Census, and is creating a Complete Count Committee to ensure that happens. The committee will include government, church, business, education and community representatives, according to a press release issued today. Additionally, the City Planning Department will push public awareness of the census. "The formation of this committee is the most efficient manner for the city to ensure that we have the most accurate data possible," said Mr. Ravenstahl. "A successful census will provide the city with the foundation to plan public services and investments for the next decade." The population count also will affect federal funding and congressional representation, the mayor noted. Though Census Day does not occur for another year in 2010, the administration wants residents to be aware that beginning Saturday, Census Bureau workers will be walking streets verifying addresses. If residents are concerned about someone walking the street identifying themselves as a census worker, they can ask for the worker's federal identification, according to the release. Names of the Complete Count Committee members were not immediately available.
