Narchost was one of the two Towers of the Teeth built by the Men of Gondor for defence against the servants of the Dark Lord. It was later abandoned when the power of Gondor began to wane, and then occupied by their enemies. This tower, along with Carchost, overlooks the Morannon, the Black Gate of Mordor. It is situated on one side, some say the west (or south), of Cirith Gorgor, the Haunted Pass, on a hill that is at the extreme northern end of the Ephel Dúath (Mountains of Shadow).
