It is know that he eventually fell to the temptations of the Pleasure God Slaanesh, along with the majority of the planet's indigenous people. Warmaster Horus Lupercal, now newly corrupted by the insidious Dark Gods, would utilise the rebellion as a means to rid himself of the Loyalist elements that remained within both his own Sons of Horus, as well as three other Space Marines Legions under his command -- the Death Guard, Emperor's Children and the World Eaters. It is believed that the Traitor Vardus Praal died in the saturation bombardment by the Traitor Legion ships, when the Warmaster ordered the deadly virus-bombing of Istvaan III.

| - El Barón Vardus Praal fue Gobernador del Sistema Istvaan, y gobernaba desde la Ciudad Coral en Isstvan III. Su rebelión contra el Imperio precipitaría la primera batalla a gran escala de lo que más tarde llegaría a ser la Herejía de Horus.[[Archivo:Desembarco_Leal_Cápsulas_sobre_Ciudad_Coral.jpg|thumb|364px|Desembarco de tropas leales sobre Ciudad Coral]] Praal había declarado la independencia de Isstvan fuera del Imperio; el Emperador, tratando de evitar que otros sistemas siguiesen el mismo camino, envió al Señor de la Guerra Horus a sofocar la rebelión, inconsciente de que su hijo favorito había sido corrompido por el Caos. Bajo el mando del Señor de la Guerra se encontraban sus propios Hijos de Horus, los Devoradores de Mundos, los Hijos del Emperador y la Guardia de la Muerte. Horus, como parte de su plan maestro para la guerra que se avecinaba, envió escuadras seleccionadas de las cuatro Legiones a la superficíe, bajo el pretexto de aplastar la rebelión de raíz.
