He played in 589 games, all with the Blackhawks, collecting a total of 139 points. A reliable element on the Hawks' blue line, he served as team captain from 1976 to 1979. He reached twice the Stanley Cup final, losing both times to the Montreal Canadiens. Magnuson died in 2003 in a car accident in Ontario when the car he took place in, driven by former NHLer Rob Ramage, who was drunk, swerved into the oncoming lane. Ramage survived.
