Despite growing up in the rough neighborhood of Hell's Kitchen, Matt Murdock was still a good kid. At the age of 12, he was blinded while pushing an old man out of the way of a speeding truck. The truck hit the brakes before hitting Matt but some chemicals from the back of the truck went flying off and struck Matt in the face, getting the chemicals in his eyes. However, as it took away his sight it enhanced all his other senses. He eventually moved out of Hell's Kitchen and went to Midtown High as a teenager, befriending Peter Parker, Happy Hogan, and Mary Jane Watson.
