Frederick John Robinson, 1st Earl of Ripon better known by the title The 1st Viscount Goderich, was a British statesman and Prime Minister. Robinson entered Parliament in 1806 and served in several minor roles in the administration of Lord Liverpool, from which position he sponsored the Corn Laws of 1815, one of the most controversial pieces of legislation of the era. He then became Chancellor of the Exchequer where he gained several sarcastic nicknames during the turbulent economic period including "Prosperity Robinson" and "Goody Goderich".
