Date: D319, Y976 The Lords of the Tenebrous Council stand on top of a hill, gazing over a completely mist-shrouded valley at a castle on a rise on the other side. A bell tower peeks above the mist in the valley, and tolls a dolorous twilit hour. The twelve councillors appear to be waiting for some unknown event. First, stepping out of the shadow of a tree, Chilexi Chedena, one of the new Prime Councillor's followers, appears, with a distressed look on her face. Before she can begin speaking, the battered remnant of the Imperial Wedding Assault staggers out of Shadow, kneeling, almost falling before the Prime Councilor, the masked form of the Sorcerer Iritham.

"My lord!" Iritham nods for the wounded khayal to continue. "My lord, we have failed you; the forces surrounding the Emperor and Empress were too strong; they have been successfully wed, and we defeated. We are all that remains." Iritham glares at Chilexi. "Could you not aid?" She quakes and bows to him. "Master, I was not there. I was at my villa, ensuring that no ties remained or could be discovered that would lead our enemies to us, or let them discover our plans." "This was your idea." "Master, you know, that even as I proposed it, I thought it unlikely to succeed; but we all deemed the potential rewards to be worth the effort. Even now, after the worst has occurred, our public and bitter defeat should encourage our enemies, even my damned cousin to believe we are destroyed. And if not, the success of our present plan should grant us all the power we should want." Iritham nods. "True." He focuses his attention on the kneeling khayals. "Arise, Captain, and return to Shadow. You have served well, and may rest until we shall need your services again." The khayal all rise and salute the Council. "Thank you my Lords!" They bow, and fade away into Shadow. As they do, another Khayal messenger appears on the hilltop, and salutes. "My lords! The assault has been successful! The castle and the Eternal Gate are ours!" All the councillors smile. "Return to your captain, and tell him we are coming." The messenger salutes again, and fades back into shadow. The councillors concentrate, and their feet enshrouded in shadow, walk across the top of the mist to the castle in the distance.
