- Large Shield is the initial shield of the Hooded Man, which can also be equipped by Cecil, Ceodore, Cid, and Golbez. It provides 4 Defense and 20% Evasion, and only one exists.
- The Large Shield is the fourth armor in the Shield class. It can be found in the Dungeon between Levels 10 and 30. Merchants may sell it to players who are at or between Levels 4 and 25. It has a value of 872 gold and a rarity of 650. It takes up 2 x 2 inventory space. The artifact version of Large Shield is Burnished Venger.
- Large Shields are shield which protect almost all of the body of the wearer, if standing behind it. Like the medium shield, the large shield offers protection against all type of attacks, but it has armor class bonus against missiles as well. One disadvantage of this shield is that it requires 15 Strength? to wield it and it weighs 15 lbs. Like the other shield, it appears in three different colors, light brown, brown, and black. This appears in Icewind Dale and Icewind Dale II.
- Large Shields, which are also called the kite, tower, or body shields, offer the most complete defense of any of the four standard shield designs. Covering nearly the entire profile of an average humanoid, these shields are among the heaviest and most cumbersome equipment available. Like other three types of shields, large shields can be found in three different colors. They are made from wood and/or metal. Large shields provide a -1 bonus to armor class and an additional -1 bonus against missiles and piercing attacks.
- When a unit with a Large Shield is struck by certain types of attacks, it temporarily receives a bonus of File:Icon Defense.png . This often results in the unit suffering slightly less File:Icon Damage.png from such attacks. Large Shield's bonus applies against all types of Ranged Attacks, as well as Thrown Attacks and Breath Attacks. It does not apply against Melee Attacks. All other Attack Types ignore the target's File:Icon Defense.png , so Large Shield has no effect against them.
