Boom Sonic is notorious for being an incredibly underpowered character and being very interferior to Sonic, a character who is already considered average. Many even argue that Boom Sonic is the worst character in the entire Smash franchise. He has a losing matchup against every other character in the game and is ranked last on the tier list. Many of Boom Sonic's flaws include his sluggish moveset, predictable approach, terrible KOing options and due to him having very fast falling speed, is incredibly easy to combo. He also has limited knockback in his moves and has terrible edgeguarding skills. In fact, Boom Sonic's KOing options are so terrible that he even has trouble KOing characters like Pichu and Jigglypuff until the 250% mark, and can sometimes not KO characters like Bowser until the 400% mark. This doesn't mean Boom Sonic has no redeeming qualities at all, however. He has a fairly large grab range, allowing him to grab oppoments easily. His fast falling speed allows him to survive the upper blast lines better than other players. Regardless, Boom Sonic's flaws heavily outnumber his positives, and players who can win Classic Mode on Intense with him are thought to be masters at the game.
