- Liir is Elphaba's son in Gregory Maguire's apocryphal prequels to The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. He is friends with Dorothy Gale, Toto, the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, and the Cowardly Lion. (Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West and Son of a Witch) Liir is also the protagonist of Maguire's sequel to Wicked, Son of a Witch. In this book, Liir unknowingly impregnates a Quadling girl named Candle, which results in the birth of a green baby. This finally proves that Liir is indeed the son of Elphaba and Fiyero.
- Liir Thropp (also known as Liir Ko) (pronounced "Lir") is a key character in the Wicked Years by Gregory Maguire, appearing in all four books. He is the son of Elphaba Thropp and the protagonist of the second book, Son of a Witch. Liir's heritage is in doubt throughout both novels, but it is definite that he is the son of Elphaba Thropp, the Wicked Witch of the West, and her lover, Fiyero Tigelaar (the narrator in Wicked refers to Liir as "Fiyero's bastard son" and to Fiyero's children as his half-siblings, apparently confirming at least that parentage). In Wicked, Elphaba claims not to know whether Liir is her son, and aside from occasional moments of warmth, does not treat him as such; however, it should be noted that Elphaba was not a particularly affectionate person. Through his mother, Liir can lay claim to the title of Eminent Thropp and through his father he can lay claim to the Monarchy of the Arjiki tribe due to his half-sibling's demise. In an interview, author Gregory Maguire describes Liir as "Elphaba's son". Liir befriends Dorothy Gale, the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodsman, the Cowardly Lion, and Toto.
- Liir (pronounced "leer") is a supporting character in Gregory Maguire's novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, and the protagonist of its sequel, Son of a Witch. In the latter novel, he uses the names "Liir Thropp" and "Liir Ko." The two novels contain revisionist portrayals of the Land of Oz created by L. Frank Baum in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and its sequels. Liir's paternity is in doubt throughout both novels, but it is strongly suggested that he is the son of Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, and her lover Fiyero (the narrator in Wicked refers to Liir as "Fiyero's bastard son" and to Fiyero's children as his half-siblings, apparently confirming at least that parentage). (Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West and Son of a Witch) Liir is a boy who leaves the mauntery with Elphaba for the Vinkus. It is at first only strongly implied that Liir is the son of Elphaba and Fiyero, since Elphaba develops motherly feelings toward Liir. She does indeed admit that there is a year of her life she does not remember, during which she could have given birth to Liir. Extremely chubby, Liir plays with his supposed half-siblings while he and Elphaba stay with Fiyero's widow. At the end of Wicked it is stated that he intends to find a way of rescuing his half-sister Nor from her slavery. Liir is also the protagonist of Maguire's sequel to Wicked, Son of a Witch. In this book, Liir unknowingly impregnates a Quadling girl named Candle, which results in the birth of a green baby. This finally proves that Liir is indeed the son of Elphaba and Fiyero. Gregory Maguire has described Liir as "Elphaba's bastard son" in interviews.
