The concept behind the Blood Guards was created by CommanderTony, an enthusiast on military history and science fiction, who sought to create an alternate universe version of the venerable Emperor's Royal Guard. Instead of a pure close protection service which was seen in canon material, the "Corps of Royal Guards" became a general purpose shock force rivaling and exceeding the Stormtrooper Corps in capabilities, in addition to their original purpose as guards for the Emperor.

  • The concept behind the Blood Guards was created by CommanderTony, an enthusiast on military history and science fiction, who sought to create an alternate universe version of the venerable Emperor's Royal Guard. Instead of a pure close protection service which was seen in canon material, the "Corps of Royal Guards" became a general purpose shock force rivaling and exceeding the Stormtrooper Corps in capabilities, in addition to their original purpose as guards for the Emperor. This premise behind this can be compared to the Waffen-SS of the now-defunct Third Reich. Originally a protective service of the Nazi Party, it grew during the Second World War to an ultimate size of 38 divisions and dozens of smaller independent formations. Throughout the war, the allies regarded the Waffen-SS as some of the toughest units they encountered.
