Taj the Genie is an elephant who first appeared as a guide on the Nintendo 64 game Diddy Kong Racing. In the DS remake he returned providing the same role however he could also be unlocked as a secret character. He is also the one who gives prizes (balloons and pieces of amulets) in a cutscene after a level is cleared. Taj the Genie is a blue Indian elephant genie who first appeared in Diddy Kong Racing and later in Diddy Kong Racing DS, the game's remake. He resides on Timber's Island as that is his homeland. He speaks with an Indian accent in the original Diddy Kong Racing and talks more often than in the DS remake where he is given an British accent. In the remake as well, Taj appears as a unlockable character by completing the Adventure mode. Taj the Genie is, as his name implies, a genie of the elephant species. In Diddy Kong Racing, Taj is an acquaintance to Timber, Diddy, and their friends on their quest to get rid of Wizpig. In the game, the player can race Taj up to three times. If the player wins, Taj will award them with a Golden Balloon. Taj can also change his vehicle. Taj appears during the events of Diddy Kong Racing, where he helps Diddy Kong and his pals in their quest to kick the evil Wizpig out of Timber's Island. In the game, players can race Taj up to three times in the three vehicles; the boat, the car, and the plane. If defeated, Taj awards his opponent with a Golden Balloon. Taj can also change the vehicle being used currently for a different one.
