| - The Gorgodonth Golem was an ancient Arithmian golem constructed by the arch-wizard Zervarithus thousands of years ago before the fall of the Arithmian Empire. The Gorgodonth golem was to be the ultimate war machine for the empire against its many enemies. Zervarithus bound four undead elemental spirits into the heart of the golem. The heart of the golem was actually a large crystal from the Red Star comet, which amplified the powers of the spirits trapped within and gave life to the golem. Unlike more common golems, the Gorgodonth could not be controlled by voice commands. It required a stronger focus, so Zervarithus created a special staff that would create a mental link between the wielder and the undead elemental spirits bound within the heart of the golem. The staff gave the wielder complete control of the golems actions. However, Zervarithus had underestimated the empowering effects of the red star crystal, and the spirits became much stronger than expected, and so in turn did the golem. Zervarithus feared that the Gorgodonth was far too powerful a weapon, and feared that it would not just destroy their enemies, but the empire as well. He also thought the staff had a vital flaw - should it be broken while the golem was activated with the undead spirits, the spirits would take control of the golem and it would be impossible to control again. Not to mention what could happen should the staff fall into the wrong hands. Therefore he dismantled the Red Star heart from the golem and sent it across the Sea of Winter. The control staff he split in two, sending one part to the depths of the earth and taking the other part with him in his grave. Eventually, thousands of years later, the staff was reassembled and the heart brought back to the Shores. The Gorgodonth was awoken by Saelihn Tessarion, wanting to use it for her own reasons. However, the Gorgodonth was soon destroyed. As Zervarithus had expected, when the staff was broken, and the golem activated, the undead elemental spirits tried to escape their prison - causing the golem to explode.
