Mayama's television and movie career started in the mid-1960s, lasted until the late 1970s, and included a little over twenty roles. Her earliest film roles were uncredited parts in the 1966 romantic comedy Walk, Don't Run (also featuring Samantha Eggar and TOS star George Takei) and the 1967 western The War Wagon (starring Robert Walker and Valora Noland). These were followed with supporting roles in the 1969 adventure Impasse (co-starring Jeff Corey), the 1970 drama The Hawaiians (with James Gregory and Keye Luke), and the 1973 blaxploitation film That Man Bolt (starring Fred Williamson).
