The Battle of the Mask Makers was a conflict that took place on the island of Okoto between Ekimu and his brother Makuta. The actual confrontation was preceded by an unknown period of time in which Makuta was consumed by envy for his brother Ekimu, whose masks were more prized by the Okotans among whom they labored. After working alongside the Protectors and Ekimu to defeat the Skull Raiders, Makuta secretly formed an alliance with the pirates, before forging the Mask of Ultimate Power. Makuta subsequently donned the mask in Capital City and began to be mutated by its power, only to have it knocked from his face by Ekimu's Hammer of Power. As a result, Makuta and the city were drawn into the Shadow Realm, Okoto's landscape was drastically changed, Ekimu was left comatose, and the various M
