- The Black Dragon are an international gang of criminals and an antagonistic faction in the Mortal Kombat universe. According to legend, the Black Dragon Clan split from its parent group, the Red Dragon clan. The reason the Black Dragon was founded was a deep-rooted discontent with the strict codes of honor and stealth that pervaded the Red Dragon.
- A group of chefs living on Black Dragon Island; many famous chefs including Jinkai, Retso, Mamie, Shun Min and Seiryu all come from this Island. Secretly, the clan leader was seeking to find the perfect recipe that will bring joy to whoever may eat it; the chefs plan to use this perfect recipe so that they may rule the world through its use. The group actually achieved some success in this goal, creating the Moon Bird Recipe, a simple, dish that way easy to prepare that appealed to everyone. However, Seiryu and Shun Min, unhappy at seeing how the recipe was corrupting the Black Dragon Clan, stole the recipe, intending to run away with it.
- If legend is true, and The Emperor Heavenly Demon was indeed a human possessed by demons, than The Thunder Emperor is more likely a demon incarnate, with no sliver of humanity within him whatsoever. Though the final Duel of Nine Dragons has proven that he can be defeated, it is doubtful that he can ever be vanquished. And even now his forces marshal to bring his opponents to a mounting state of crisis, the likes of which The Land has never seen.

Shun Min, though successful in stealing the recipe, was found out and assassinated by another member of the clan; before dying, however, she hung on long enough to give the recipe to Sieryu, her lover and one of the top-ranking members of the clan. Sieryu ran far from Black Dragon Island, eventually finding a place to stay in the City-States of Jowston as a chef for the Allied Army under the name Hai Yo. However, the Black Dragon Clan successfully tracked Hai Yo down in the Allied Army’s kitchen, and several members challenged him to cook-offs for the recipe, including Jinkai, the leader of the clan. However, Seiryu's cooking talents were phenomenal, and overcoming his competition, he managed to retain victory even over Jinkai. Tearing up the Moon Bird Recipe that had brought so much strife, Seiryu proclaimed that the best dish was any dish baked with emotion. Jinkai, seeing the error of his ways, apologized and allowed Seiryu to return to Black Dragon Island, where he visited Shun Min's grave. Whether he returned to the group or not is unknown.
