In 1914, the Gloire was used as a school ship. In August, she was transferred to the English Channel light squadron, until April 1915. She was transferred to the Atlantic in 1916, chasing German raiders off Canada. In May 1918, the Gloire collided with the US steamer City of Athens and had to be repaired in New York harbour. She was eventually scrapped in Brest in 1922.
