Stefaniw totaled 140 goals in three seasons with the WHL's Estevan Bruins. He spent the majority of his first four pro seasons in the WHL before toiling briefly in the CHL in AHL. The Atlanta Flames claimed him in the 1972 NHL Expansion Draft as insurance. Stefaniw had a strong training camp but was sent down to the minors after the first month of the season. His one and only NHL goal was the first in the history of the franchise when they beat the New York Islanders 2-1 on opening night.
