| - Regina, a vengeful Queen, is angry to see what a fantastic rider her nemesis and stepdaughter Snow White has become and grows frustrated with Rumplestiltskin's magic lessons because they appear to be getting her nowhere in terms of revenge. He finds her reading Maleficent's spell book and explains to her that learning magic just takes time and that Maleficent would tell her the same thing. So he teleports her to a flaming tree which Maleficent once burned while in dragon form; her breath burned so hot that the tree is still ablaze. Regina, seeking a new teacher, finds Maleficent in her Forbidden Fortress, but she's surprised to see that she's become a washed-up has-been villain who's grown disenchanted with the idea of revenge, which she now sees as a pointless pursuit since Briar Rose, a woman she put under a sleeping curse, was woken up by King Stefan and his true love's kiss so immediately. Regina leaves, greatly disappointed, but soon returns when she learns that Briar Rose's daughter Aurora is getting married. She tells the dark sorceress that this is a reason to get up and fight back against the heroes' happy ending; however, Maleficent reveals that she's lost the ability to turn into a dragon. Regina decides to help her get her fire back and takes her to the flaming tree. Maleficent inhales the fire and King Stefan soon attacks. It is quickly learned that inhaling the fire was a success, for Maleficent transforms into a mighty dragon and quashes his men, before heading to Aurora's palace and putting the princess under a sleeping curse right before her wedding. Regina is inspired by the dragon witch, but returns to Rumplestiltskin nonetheless, happy with his teaching methods after all. She has now decided that she doesn't want to kill Snow White, but rather make her suffering eternal. ("Enter the Dragon") After hearing about the Looking Glass that Maleficent keeps in her castle, Will Scarlet joins the Merry Men in hopes of breaking into the Forbidden Fortress to steal the mirror. Later, in the fairytale land that was, Will, Robin Hood, Little John, Friar Tuck and other Merry Men are walking through the empty main hall of Maleficent's Forbidden Fortress. Robin warns his men that Maleficent traffics in the darkest of magic and repeats not to touch anything but the gold. Will explains that the gold is hidden behind a wall panel so tells them to search for one cut a bit smaller than the rest. The men then split up and begin there search. A short while later, Will is alone down a corridor as he looks around. He looks into a jar filled with eyes and is shocked when one looks at him. He then turns his attention to a cabinet which he then opens and begins to look around. His attention is suddenly caught by a small mirror in the cabinet. He looks into it and then grabs it. He then proceeds to stare into the mirror. The Merry Men leave the Fortress, however, Maleficent discovers what Will stole from her and she sends the Merry Men a message, telling them to return it. Will doesn't listen, and he and his true love, Anastasia escape to Wonderland. ("Forget Me Not") Wanting to obtain the Dark Curse from Bald Mountain that can supposedly provide a villain's "happy ending", Rumplestiltskin learns he cannot perform such task alone, as there are three great obstacles inside, and the object is guarded by an ancient demon, the Chernabog. The Dark One sends out invitations to both Ursula and Cruella De Vil, calling a meeting at the Forbidden Fortress. When the two women arrive, they are both met by Maleficent, ruler of the castle, who was unaware she was receiving company. The three are all confused as to why they've been called together, but it soon becomes clear when Rumple reveals himself. He proposes the three women help him gain the Dark Curse so each can have happy endings they would otherwise not get as villains. What the Queens don't know, however, is that in reality, Rumple plans on abandoning them to the Chernabog once he obtains the curse. The trio agree and they all set out for Bald Mountain. Once abandoned, however, the three work together and manage to escape the demon, ultimately forming a team. ("Darkness on the Edge of Town") Some time after, Prince Charming makes a deal with Rumplestiltskin in order to retrieve his mother's ring. He must conceal a bottle of true love encased in a protective egg inside a great beast. Maleficent enjoys a quiet moment in her home when Prince Charming suddenly appears with his sword to Maleficent's throat. Maleficent thrusts Charming back with a magical blast and reveals that she is “the beast.” She then magically blows out all of the candles in the room. Shrouded in darkness, Charming tells the witch to show herself, and slowly she reveals herself as a monstrous, fire-breathing dragon. A battle ensues, with Prince Charming finally forcing the egg down Maleficent's throat. His work done, Charming leaps through a stained glass window, diving into the waters far below. ("A Land Without Magic") Frustrated, Queen Regina goes to Maleficent to get the Dark Curse back. Maleficent says they made a deal and the curse belongs to her now. She keeps the curse held in the orb of her staff, and when she refuses to willingly hand it over, Regina challenges her. They have a magic spar, and just as the Queen readies many enchanted weapons to throw at her pet unicorn, Maleficent jumps in front to intervene and is tied up with the metal of the chandelier, and is thrown against the wall. She believes she will be killed, but the Evil Queen states she would never do that since Maleficent is her only friend. Free to get the curse from the orb of Maleficent's staff, the Evil Queen is warned of the curse's dangers, and how it would leave a void in her, but she takes this all in stride and leaves. ("The Thing You Love Most")
