| Synopsis
| - Television columnist Jennifer Sharp exits the Night Shift studio where she is accosted by several thugs in the employ of a mobster named Tony the Gut. The henchmen intend on delivering a message in response to Sharp's recent exposé, and they viciously burn her face with fast-working acid. The Huntress shows up and disables the thugs just as detectives Fiorello and O'Shea arrive on the scene.
After this incident, the Huntress catches O'Shea alone and hands him a package. She explains that it is one half of a coded journal belonging to the late crimelord Guido Bertinelli. She trusts O'Shea and hopes that his people might be able to make use of it. Perhaps they will be able to "find where the bodies are buried". She indicates her plan to leave the second half of the journal with another party.
A week later, Jennifer Sharp appears on Night Shift and reveals her ruined face. She declares that she refuses to hide behind a mask, and is committed towards routing out organized crime in the city. The Huntress watches the broadcast and is inspired by Sharp's bravery. She now knows whom she will leave the second journal with.
O'Shea meanwhile is unable to decipher the first journal. At his lietenant's suggestion, he makes a deal with convicted serial killer Alexander Wyvern, a master cipher. He offers to get Wyverne special privileges if he succeeds in translating the journal. Wyvern succeeds in this task, but reveals that Bertinelli's journal is filled with flowery prose with little information that relates to his criminal enterprises. After O'Shea leaves, Wyvern blackmails a prison guard named Smits into arranging for his escape.
The Huntress goes to Jennifer Sharp's apartment to deliver the journal, but when she arrives, she finds that Sharp has been killed.
